These are ideal for our climate. Being carefree and drought resistant, consider outlying areas such as by the mailbox, roadsides or driveways, hillsides, waste areas, anywhere that is not full shade. Bulbs can be left permanently in the ground if planted 5 to 6 inches deep (soak hard ground first to make it diggable) or try even deeper if the soil is soft and the bulbs are large.

Mass plantings are very affordable. Try scattering California Poppy or Alyssum seeds over the area for masses of color during the dormant season.
